Clear Vision, Clear Purpose: Starting the New Year Right

Jan 15 / Dr. Janice R. Love

Happy New Year!

I hope this message finds you safe and warm. I’m so glad to be stepping into a fresh new year, even though the weather here in Kansas has been anything but inviting. We were blanketed with 12 inches of snow, which kept me locked indoors for almost five days. But, honestly, I’ve been grateful for the time it gave me to reflect and plan for the year ahead. Sometimes, being forced to slow down is exactly what we need to get clarity and focus.

This time of year, there’s always a buzz about picking a word to guide your year—something that keeps you grounded and intentional. Alongside that, many people set resolutions, with the most popular ones revolving around exercising, eating healthier, losing weight, or improving themselves physically and mentally. These goals are great, but as I’ve reflected during this snowy start to the year, I’ve realized how important it is to go beyond resolutions and find clarity in your purpose.

International Quitter's Day?

Getting in shape is always a big thing for the new year. The gyms are full of people determined to get fit and look better by summer. In a conversation with my son, he informed me of a big day that I have never heard of. Have you heard of National Quitter's Day? I had never heard of it and I couldn’t stop laughing at his explanation of what the day means to him.   In our conversation he explained that he couldn’t wait for January 10th also known as International Quitter’s Day to arrive because he was frustrated by the sudden influx of people crowding the gym—people who, let’s be honest, don’t usually make it past January.

According to him, you can spot them a mile away. They’re the ones rocking brand-new outfits, squeaky-clean tennis shoes, and spending more time perfecting their selfies than their squats. Every workout is a social media moment, complete with hashtags like #NewYearNewMe and #GymLife. He was counting down the days until National Quitter’s Day so the gym could “return to normal.” Funny thing, my son had given me a pair of new tennis shoes for Christmas and I wanted to take a picture and show him how much I liked them. I made a special note to take the selfie before I got to the gym. I didn’t want to look like one of those people he described.

Clarity on the One Thing

Back to clarity. Clarity is defined as the quality of being easy to see, hear, or understand. In our lives and businesses, it means focusing on what truly matters—our purpose and priorities. Thinking back to when I first launched Pearls Perfected Institute, I didn’t have the clarity I needed. Entrepreneurship can be overwhelming, especially when you transition from a structured corporate environment. At my old job, I had a clear job description. But as a business owner? Suddenly, I wore every hat.

In speaking with one of my mentors, he recommended The One Thing by Gary Keller. It’s a game-changing book based on the following truth…“If you chase two rabbits, you will not catch either one.” The book challenges us to identify the one thing that matters most, the one thing that will make everything else easier or unnecessary.

eople he described.

Helping You Teach What You Know

When it comes to clarity, one of the most important areas to focus on is understanding your purpose or assignment. For me, my purpose has become crystal clear: “To help others teach what they know so others can grow.” This isn’t just a catchy tagline—it’s a mission rooted in my belief that everyone has valuable knowledge and experiences to share. Whether it’s through writing a book, creating a course, or sharing expertise in another way, I’m passionate about helping people uncover the unique lessons they’ve learned and translate them into something that changes lives. Clarity in this purpose has allowed me to stop chasing every opportunity and instead focus on building something meaningful—helping others fulfill their calling to educate and empower.

This assignment didn’t come to me overnight. It required reflection, trial and error, and stepping into the unknown. But when I embraced it, everything started to fall into place. There’s a ripple effect that happens when you teach others what you know. You aren’t just sharing information—you’re creating transformation, inspiring growth, and equipping people to take action. That’s what Pearls Perfected Institute is all about. My goal is to create a space where professionals and experts can turn their knowledge into life-changing content, whether that’s through a course, a book, or something entirely new. Helping others teach isn’t just my purpose—it’s the way I fulfill my own calling to make an impact.
